The ECOWAS Volunteers Programme was established in 2004 as a flagship peace and development initiative of the ECOWAS Commission. It was designed to contribute to post-conflict recovery, promote regional integration, and support capacity building in Member States. Liberia is one of the first countries to implement EVP, with deployments beginning in 2010, focusing on strengthening national development efforts, especially in sectors such as education, health, youth empowerment, and peacebuilding
EVP Liberia operates through strong partnerships with the ECOWAS Commission, the ECOWAS National Office in Liberia, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, United Nations Volunteers (UNV), and other line ministries and community-based organizations. These partnerships ensure effective volunteer deployment, alignment with national priorities, and sustainable impact in communities.
EVP Liberia deploys skilled volunteers to support national priorities in key development sectors. Current areas of intervention include: Education, Health, Environment & Climate Action, Youth Empowerment, Gender Equality, Peacebuilding, and Community Development. Volunteers bring their expertise to schools, health centers, ministries, and communities, contributing to Liberia’s development agenda and regional peace efforts.
